SCIENTIFIC COOPERATION

NAPO undertakes a research programme in cooperation with The National Marine Fisheries Research Institute in Gdynia in all sea areas where Polish high-sea fishing fleet is engaged in fishing activities.

Since 2007, both organizations cooperate under a framework agreement on scientific fisheries research.
The main objectives of this agreement are:

  • providing information on fish stocks condition,
  • clarify any doubts with respect to available scientific estimates and also with respect to fish stock that has not yet been estimated,
  • researching and implementation of innovative scientific methods, as well as more selective and more environmentally friendly fishing techniques.

Since the beginning of our cooperation we have conducted numerous scientific surveys i.a. cod and Greenland halibut survey in Svalbard waters, redfish survey in North Atlantic, Chilean jack mackerel survey in South Pacific and small pelagic species survey in Mauritanian waters.
